Picnic, Diva, and My cup runneth Over

So, I think the pictures and the title explain it all. Highlands had a picnic for the new school year~it was a lot of fun. Grant was a little confused on why we were going to school on a "stay home day". He didn't let me out of his sight.
Reagan felt left out because everyone wears glasses except her. She loves her new sunglasses. She feels so pretty. She is ALL GIRL.
And last~ my cup REALLY runneth over. Grant thought it would be nice for him to offer Reagan a variety of juice selections in her new cups. The choices were: grape juice, white grape juice, diet coke mixed with apple juice, milk, and various other selections. Wow! Now if that's not love, I don't know what is!

I'm Lovin' It!

So, Grant and I dropped Reagan off at preschool, and we usually go to Aunt"Key's" house for him to ride with her and Jake. But, "Key" had bus duty so I was going to have to take Grant and drop him off in the carpool line. So, I explained it to him~but, when we drove up he says "Momma-what is this?" I stated "Well, Grant I drive up to that lady and she will take you out of the car." He waited a minute and he says " So, what am I~like a chicken nugget~You just drive through just like that. This isn't McDonalds Momma, It's the Highlands school." I cracked up laughing. Now, I call him my little chicken nugget! He is soooooo funny! I could write something like this every day~ to bad I don't have time. I try to do the best I can because his children will read this one day and know what kind of little boy he was! He is my sunshine! How can you not have a great day with him around.

I Will Survive~ WON'T I?

So, my mom calls me periodically and gives me a quick update on my little man. So, when her # showed up on my phone today, I didn't really think anything about it. Well~ I should have! She said-"Hold on Jan- Grant, tell your mother what you did." My heart started beating fast. Grant, or my little MY GLASS IS HALF FULL, NOT EMPTY angle says "Momma~ I did not even tattle. Logan cut my hair and I didn't tell on him, I just cut his hair right back!" OH MY GOODNESS! You see, Miss Kim, Grant's preschool teacher was big on not tattling. So, he thought he had made a great choice.
Well, Grant had not told his teacher that Logan cut his hair first. They thought that Grant just cut his hair. So, I guess things could have been worse. I hope things get better. Kindergarten is hard work~for Grant and ME!

Kindergarten Homework

Grant has his first "homework" assignment. Mrs. Martin is reading "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" to their class. He was assigned the letter "Z" to decorate for the classroom tree. He painted it himself, and I drew the zebra, but he colored it. He also glued all of the pieces together. He loves to do art projects. I just put the picture of Reagan in there for fun. She is always right on my heels wanting me to pick her up! I love my two monkies!
And, I bet you all have wondered what that is on my blog in the background. I had my blog printed. I put some pictures of the finished product. I made a seperate on for Reagan, but Scott's grandmother is reading it. I love them! They turned out so cute.

The World As Grant Sees It

Well ~ This has been a very emotional week. Grant seems to be adjusting to kindergarten well. He is not crazy that he still has to take naps, and the fact that they only get 15 minutes for "playtime" outside really makes him upset. Now, I have to tell you all about all of the many things he has said this week. Grant's mouth gets me in some super tight situations. He is so full of questions~ Very eager to learn, he always asks what is on his mind. So, here it goes! Try to put yourself in my shoes. Somehow, it's not as funny there! I will start from open house~

1. Grant, go and meet some of the kids in your class. Ask that little boy his name. "Okay Momma~ Hey, What's "you" name?" Hey, why do you have a white momma and a brown daddy? Momma look~ he has a brown daddy and a white momma~ Come meet my new friend!!!!!!!!
2. Grant's principal is very sweet. Super Super educator and administrator. She was born with one hand. She always tells the children up front about it, and encourages them to ask questions in a positive way. So, Grant met her for the first time and says" Hey, what happened to "you" hand?" She explains, and then Grant says "How do you tie you shoes?" and, "If you are the principal, can you still spank hard?"
3. I am the school nurse, so we have some very medically fragile children. The staff asked me to do an inservice about differences. I needed to let them know about a child who is a hemophiliac, and how they should be super careful around him. I brought Grant up and he was the example since he has glasses, the principal spoke about her arm, and we talked about the little boy with the bleeding disorder. The school counselor closed by saying"See we all have differences. Look and me and Mrs. Davis~ She is tall, and I am short. She has brown hair, and I have blond hair." Grant raises his hand, and she walks over to him~ I shake my head NOOOOO! Experience has taught me this. He says "my mom says no" She moves on. I go to lunch with Grant, and he says~ "Momma, you knew what I was going to say didn't you~ I was going to say and you are fat and she is skinny." Thank you JESUS~ Really~He was looking out for me! FUN! FUN! I know now why teachers can get "tenure" I never agreed with it until now! I thought if you did your job, you had nothing to worry about. But, I bet the person that set that system up had a child like mine!

Preschool and Kindergarten

Reagan began preschool Monday. She was not terribly excited about the whole process. Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Rachel are so sweet though. I can't say that I blame Reagan for crying. She was a little messy when she ate lunch and they put an ALABAMA shirt on her. Now, we had our own extra clothes in our bag. They thought it was soooo funny though.
Moving on to Grant- There is no better way to have your child begin school than what we had! Grant ran right in the doors to his "MEME HONEY's" arms. He was so excited she was there. He starts the day by me dropping him off at Aunt Key's with Jake. They hang out in Key's 1st grade class, then Jake takes Grant to his class. Jake and Grant dress alike every day. So sweet.
I am so blessed that this has worked out like it has. Reagan is such a sweet little angle. She is smiling and happy first thing in the morning. Grant is just as sweet, but minus the morning happiness thing. My babies are getting so big-so FAST! I know these are the best days of my life and I am lovin' every minute of it.

Better than I thought

Well, if you are a mom, actually have time to read blogs and not just look at the pictures, then you will be so proud of me. In a prior post, I put some of Grant's halloween costumes on the blog to make sure his first few years were documented since I did not do a blog when he was younger. I started this after Reagan was born. I didn't think I took a picture of Grant's third halloween costume due to the heat! He was not happy about wearing his costume that year. But, I found an old picture. I guess I am a better mom than I thought. I did capture his 3rd halloween! I Love You Grant! You have the most beautiful blue eyes!

Grant-"Got it!" Reagan- "WHAT"?

Life lessons. That pretty much sums up our summer. I think that the major "lesson" we worked on this summer would be learning to share. Now, Grant has successfully completed the course. As for Reagan, she has to repeat.
Grant loves for Jake and Presley to come and visit. He has no problem sharing his "club house", bike, four wheeler, or whatever it may be. But, Reagan is a different story. We can't even get her to share a small grape! She went after Jake when he invaded her territory.
On this particular day, Jake and Grant realized we had some "army worms" in our new grass. They were trying to save them. This did not make Scott happy. Presley was heart-broken when Grant gave her the news one of the worms did'nt make it. They have such imaginations. Little did they know, Scott was loading up the John Deere Gator with spray and supplies to kill each and every one of those worms!
Kind of sad that summer is coming to an end. Grant is off to kindergarten, and Reagan will begin preschool. I will post new pictures of their big days on Monday.

Monkey See, Monkey Do!

Grant is the lead monkey for sure. Reagan copies and says (or tries to) everything Grant does. She loves him so much. In the pictures below, we were at the beach. We took the kids to a huge maze. Grant got tired of not finding his way, so he started to cheat by crawling under the walls. We had to teach him that he was not suppose to give up~ and that no matter how hard it was, he should do it the "right" way. But, in all honesty guys, there was no way Scott and I could make it under those things! :)
They enjoyed playing golf as well. We think Reagan thought the animals were real. So, I guess she thought we took a trip to the zoo as well. Whatever~ if it made her trip more fun, so be it.
She loved the giraff. It was huge. I recommend everyone going to the "upside down house" as Grant calls it. It is similar to the McWane Center in Birmingham. But, it is not as big so it makes it a little more chaotic. Still fun for the kids though. We had a great trip. Thanks to Uncle Jeff for letting us stay at his beach house.
